Let me be upfront about something.
I am not a CA. I am not a SEBI-registered advisor. I don’t manage a fund or run a wealth management firm.
I’m a salaried professional — the kind who gets a salary credited on the 1st, pays EMIs, files ITR every July, and spends way too long on Google trying to figure out whether SIP is better than PPF or whether term insurance is actually worth it.
For years, every time I searched for money advice online, I got one of two things: either a dry, 4,000-word article clearly written to rank on Google and not to actually help anyone, or a YouTube video by someone trying to sell me their course.
There was very little in between. Almost nothing that felt like a real person talking.
So I started writing it myself.
What this blog is about
The Salary Investor covers personal finance for people who earn a fixed monthly salary and want to do something smarter with it than just letting it sit in a savings account.
Topics I write about regularly:
- SIP and mutual funds — which ones, how much, and when to start
- Term insurance and health insurance — what to buy and what to ignore
- Tax saving — how to actually use 80C, 80D, and HRA without hiring a CA
- PPF, NPS, and EPF — the government schemes that quietly build wealth
- Credit cards — which ones are worth it and which ones are traps
- Emergency funds and budgeting — the boring stuff that actually matters most
- Salary slips and ITR — how to read them and what they mean for your money
Every article is written in plain English. No unnecessary jargon. No financial terms explained in more financial terms. If I use a complicated word, I explain it right there.
A few things I believe strongly
Most people don’t need a financial advisor to get started. They need clear information and the confidence to take the first step. A ₹500/month SIP started today beats the perfect investment strategy you plan to start “next month” forever.
Saving tax is not cheating. The government built 80C for a reason. Use it completely, every single year.
The best investment is one you actually stick to. Not the one with the highest historical return. Consistency wins over cleverness every time.
Debt is not always bad, but lifestyle debt is. There is a difference between a home loan and a personal loan for a vacation. Know the difference.
What this blog is not
This is not financial advice. Nothing on this blog should be treated as a personalised recommendation for your specific situation. I write about general concepts, real numbers, and honest opinions — but every person’s income, expenses, goals, and risk tolerance are different.
Before making any major financial decision — especially around insurance, investments above ₹1 lakh, or retirement planning — please consult a certified financial planner.
A note on how this blog makes money
The Salary Investor earns through Google AdSense (ads you see on the page) and affiliate links (when I recommend a product and you buy it through my link, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you).
I only recommend products I would genuinely consider using myself. My opinions are not for sale.
